January Check In

We’re three weeks into 2020. Let’s check in - how are those new year’s resolutions going? Personally, I said I was going to be more active and I’ve been doing well so far! But, I’m still feeling a little post-holiday sadness and not feeling super creative lately. January is the busiest time of year for my full-time job, so that definitely doesn’t help. I’m starting to really look forward to February as another fresh start.

I had the idea of doing a monthly “check in” post, where I could share a round-up of things that don’t necessarily need a whole post to themselves. Things like something cool I found out about or did, upcoming events I have going on, something on my mind or big projects that I’m working on. I’m going to try it out and see how it goes. Maybe I’ll think of a catchier title, too!

ECLetters Upcoming Events

  • I’m jumping into 2020 in full force with ECL! I held my first class of 2020 last week: hand lettered welcome mats at Lost Ark Distilling. It was fun, as always!

  • On January 26, I’ll be at Main Street Ballroom in Ellicott City for one of their open houses. Old Ellicott City is one of my favorite spots (though, contrary to popular belief, the “EC” in “ECLetters” does not stand for Ellicott City! It’s my first + middle initials). It’s a dreamy place to get married. I’m excited to meet some engaged couples and other vendors! Stay tuned for a recap on the blog in a couple of weeks. If you’re engaged, come on out!

  • My next hand lettered DIY class will be on Tuesday, February 11 at Hysteria Brewing Company. We’ll be making DIY door hangers! Click here for tickets!

Paperless Post! This holiday season was lovely AND hectic. We had every intention of sending out a Christmas card, but time just got away from us (well, time got away from me, but I’m not sure if my husband cared that much about sending them in the first place!) I love getting Christmas cards, but I felt a slight twinge of guilt every time one made its way to our mailbox. Enter: Paperless Post. I decided to make a New Year’s e-card to send out on New Year’s Day. I used a family picture from Christmas, dropped it into a template they had, added personalized messages and sent it out!

Like our card? Me, too!

Like our card? Me, too!

The cool thing about Paperless Post is it’s not just a photo in an email - when the recipient gets their email, they see an envelope, the card coming out of the envelope, and a personal message. All of those things can be customized (color, textures, message, etc) when you create the card. You can see who opened the cards, and people could send a quick reply back to you, too! That was my favorite part. We got a bunch of messages back from friends and family. I’ve honestly never thought to send an e-card before, but I would totally do it again. It was a nice way to send a holiday greeting out without having to get cards printed, buy stamps, or go to the post office. I see this as being an awesome digital alternative to wedding invitations, if you don’t want to send anything physical in the mail, especially because you can include an RSVP card!

Note - I was able to send cards on Paperless Post for free in exchange for an honest review. My opinion is my honest opinion.

My Current Obsession

What is bringing me joy in the midst of a busy and gloomy winter? Baby Yoda. OMG. I am not even into Star Wars. Baby Yoda is the CUTEST thing I’ve seen, ever. I am addicted to Baby Yoda memes. Build-a-Bear is coming out with a Baby Yoda plush and you BET I’m getting one. I don’t even understand why I love him so much, but he is CUTE! Anyone agree?

Here’s to staying active, shaking off the winter blues and getting those creative juices flowing this winter!
