My Honest Review of Flodesk

I’ve been using Flodesk for my small business email marketing for about a year and a half. Here’s my review!

When I first heard about Flodesk, I was intrigued. I was seeing some other businesses using it, and their emails looked great. At the time, I was using MailChimp for my email list (the free version) so switching to paying for an email platform felt like an unnecessary expense, but I was seeing so many good things about it that I decided to give it a try with their one-month free trial.

Email Design

Flodesk advertises itself as being design-forward and making it easy for you to design and send beautiful emails. It’s 100% true! They really do make it soooo easy to design pretty emails. With my previous email platform, it was slower and clunky and it took me forever to make something that looked okay. Flodesk is very user-friendly and they have a lot of beautiful template designs to choose from. Or, you can start from scratch and make something totally custom. Either way, you don’t need to know how to code or anything - you just edit the template and drop in your pictures. So easy, so quick and the results are really nice and professional looking.

Templates

Once you create an email, you can use it as a template and just copy it and update it as many times as you’d like. I do this all the time and it is the biggest timesaver. I teach calligraphy classes, and after every class I send attendees an email with some calligraphy supply recommendations. All I have to do is copy the message, change a couple of class-specific details, add my recipients and hit send. It’s done! I don’t have to build a new message from scratch after every class (which would be unsustainable for me).

Workflows

This is what REALLY makes it worth it for me. You can create “workflows” so when someone does something, it triggers a sequence of emails. You can set this up however you want; an example would be when someone joins your mailing list, they automatically get a welcome email, then a few days later they get another email, and so on. As a stay-at-home / work-at-home mom, the ease of being able to set it and forget it is exactly what I needed. Like I mentioned earlier in this post, my previous email vendor was free so I was apprehensive about paying for an email service, but this alone makes it well worth the money.

Flodesk Checkout

Flodesk also has another feature called Checkout, where you can collect payment for whatever you’re selling; whether it’s a physical product, a digital product or a service. I personally don’t use this feature right now, but I could see it being really useful to be able to seamlessly sell and accept payment!

Flat Pricing

Unlike other email providers, you can have as many subscribers as you’d like, and send as many emails as you want, for one flat rate. Most small businesses want to grow, so it’s awesome not to be penalized for it!

The Bottom Line

Flodesk is well worth the investment. It makes it incredibly easy and intuitive to make beautiful branded emails. It saves me so much time, which to me, is invaluable! Sign up here to get 50% off your entire first year of Flodesk!
