Holiday Hand Lettered DIY Class Recaps

This December I had the opportunity to host TWO hand lettered DIY classes!

Hand Lettered Wood Signs

The first was at Lost Ark Distilling Company in Columbia, MD. Lost Ark is actually the next-door neighbor of Hysteria Brewing Company, where I’ve hosted all my other classes! Both are located in a business park type of area off of Snowden River Parkway - you’d never know from driving by that these two awesome hangout spots are back there, but once you know, you know!

Lost Ark is a really cool spot with a cozy bar area and plenty of additional seating. Their spirits are all inspired by different pieces of Maryland history. I love a good cocktail, and let me tell you, these cocktails were VERY good! I had a couple of friends attending this class, so I got to try a sip of theirs plus my own. Yum!

We made holiday-inspired hand lettered wood signs. Attendees had the option of choosing a Christmas truck or a wreath to paint on their sign, and then could add on any words they liked. Most people went with a last name, and the truck was definitely the most popular option! We talked through how to use fauxligraphy to letter on the sign, and then went step-by-step on how to paint it. Attendees then got to pick ribbon to add onto their sign so they could hang it up. I love how festive and fun all of their signs turned out!

Hand Lettered Ornaments

The next class, we made hand lettered wood slice ornaments at Hysteria Brewing Company. As usual, the beer was great and the atmosphere was perfect for hanging out and crafting! There was even a food truck serving pizza, which looked so good.

Attendees had the option of making either two or three ornaments, and got to pick their background color (white, red or black). We learned how to use fauxligraphy to letter on the ornaments with paint pens, and then attendees could embellish their ornaments with paint. I put together a little holiday doodles worksheet so they could get some ideas of how to embellish the ornaments. Some even added embellishments to the back, which was a great idea! Attendees then picked out ribbon to hang the ornaments. They turned out so well!

Both classes were such fun and definitely got me in the holiday spirit! Stay tuned for more classes at both Lost Ark and Hysteria in 2020!
