Make Your Own DIY Wrapping Paper

Personalize your gifts this holiday season with hand-lettered wrapping paper! This is a really simple DIY that makes your gifts look really nice.

Here’s what you’ll need:

If you have Amazon Prime, you can still get all of this before Christmas!

What to do:

  • Roll out your Kraft paper. I had mine on my desk, so I taped the end down so the whole thing didn’t shift while I was writing

  • Write! Get creative - I decided to do lyrics to different Christmas songs, but you could repeat a phrase over and over (“let it snow” in a different color on each line would be cute…or the person’s name…so many ideas!). Go extra if you want to - maybe you do a different song or phrase for each gift recipient!

  • I used fauxligraphy on my paper, which is where you hand letter and thicken the downstrokes on each letter, but simple cursive or even print (all caps, maybe?) would look just as good. Do NOT try to make it look perfect - it’s going to get cut up anyway! Just write and get creative! I promise it will look good once it’s on a gift

  • Use as much paper as you think you’ll need. I divided my paper into about 12x12” sections and then did different lyrics / different colors on each, but you could also do one big long section, and then cut it up

  • You could even add doodles - get creative and have fun!

Once you’ve written on the paper, use it as you would any other wrapping paper. Don’t worry about cutting down the middle of a word, or making sure things line up perfectly. I actually think the wrapping looks better when the words are on a diagonal - it’s just kind of artsy and fun!

Add any embellishments you want (bows, ribbon, gift tags, etc) and you’re done! I used some twine and ribbon, and some paper gift tags I already had.

Small pieces of greenery would look amazing on these…I need to hunt some down! Happy holidays!
