My first two Hand Lettered Welcome Mats classes at Hysteria Brewing Company are under my belt, and they were a ton of fun! Hysteria is a really cool spot located in Columbia, Maryland, easily accessible from Snowden River Parkway. When you walk in, it’s got a great cozy vibe. They frequently have food trucks outside, and you can bring in your own food, too. They have a back room area that is perfect for events (like trivia, musicians, etc), a great selection of beer (my favorite is Tipping Point), and friendly employees. I’m really thankful that I’ve been able to have these classes there and hope to be back for many more!

Attendees purchased their tickets through EventBrite and sent me the phrase that they wanted their mat to say beforehand. A few days before the class, I lettered the mats (just in basic cursive / print) for attendees to paint and on the day of, got everything set up.

When people started arriving, they signed in with me and got a drink ticket to grab a beer before getting settled in. During the class, we went over upstrokes & downstrokes, how to do fauxligraphy and techniques for painting the mats. Attendees filled in the downstrokes on their letters and got painting! The finished products looked awesome. Some people added more of their own flair to their mats with embellishments to the lettering and designs!
